Climate scientists have warned that there are only 12 years for global warming to be kept to 1.5C. Even half a degree over the maximum will worsen the risks of floods, heat and poverty for millions of people. A report by IPCC claims they pledge to keep temperatures between 1.5C and 2C.
Protestors gathered outside Banqueting House to listen to the final speech from campaign coordinator, Claire James. James discussed plans that 'Campaign against Climate Change' have in store for the future.
Organisations from all over the country attended the march in Central London. One placard caught the eye of many which read "One million climate jobs, for a future that does not cost the earth." This organisation focuses on getting more people interested in working in the climate industry.
The older generation showed their passion during the march too. Many have been around to see the world deteriorate due to climate change. They came with their kinds and their grandchildren, to fight and change their future.
Protestors rushed through the march to gather outside the Banqueting House in time for the closing speeches. Again, we see another placard dedicated to keeping temperatures at 1.5C for a safer world.
Protesters laughed in disbelief at the Australian Resources Minister's response to students marching against climate change in Sydney. Claire James said: "The Australian Resources Minister said that they should be in school learning about mines, geology and how to drill for oil and gas."
Claire James, campaign coordinator, delivered the final speech of the day. In an exclusive interview with my team and I, she said: "They do not need to be pushing fracking, we do not need a 3rd runway in Heathrow. We can put cash into sustainable transport instead. There's lots that we can do right now."
Special thanks to Claire James, Campaign Coordinator.
