The Protest: How it unfolded

We reported on the 'Campaign against Climate Change' protest which began outside the Polish Embassy on Portland Place and came to a stand still at Whitehall/Downing Street.

On Saturday, December 1st 2018, 2,000 protesters came together to halt climate change, stand in solidarity with environmental activists and to tell the government that they are not doing enough to help.

With supporters travelling from far and wide to attend this march, organisers of the event were keen to make a heavy impact. MP’s Clive Lewis and Barry Gardiner, representing the Labour Party and Sian Berry, representing the Green Party, were all a part of the march and gave speeches at the rallies to gain more supporters. Additionally, they gave protesters an insight into how climate change is impacting the UK, from the perspective of politicians.

This is what happened:

1:30pm: Protest takes off outside Polish Embassy on Portland Place

2:00pm: 2,000 protesters march through Regent Street, grabbing the attention of nearby Christmas shoppers

2:15pm: Protesters stop traffic in Leicester Square

2:30pm: Arrived outside Banqueting House

2:45pm: Speech from Barry Gardiner MP, Labour Party

3:00pm: Speech from Liz Hutchins, Friends of the Earth - "So far in this country, there has been 100% failure rate of fracking."

3:10pm: Speech from Peter Allen, Frack Free United

3:20pm: Final speech from Claire James, Campaign Coordinator
